UK Vegetarian Week at The Radhuni


Scotland’s Curry Chef of the Year is marking UK Vegetarian Week by adding a special vegetarian dish to his menu.

Alo n’ Dim Bhuna is a traditional home-style egg and potato curry, lightly spiced with tomato, cumin chilli and turmeric, garnished with fresh coriander and spring onion leaves. It is served with stuffed paratha (flatbread) and Chana (spiced) rice.

It is available at Radhuni in Loanhead, Midlothian, during National Vegetarian Week from 14-20 May. The restaurant’s Head Chef, Ashok Ram, was recently voted Scotland’s Curry Chef of 2018.

“Vegetables are an essential part of the menu at Radhuni” said Manager Habibur Khan. “We hand pick and love using them as they are full of minerals, fibres and natural taste, and add texture to any dish. Our most popular dishes include Tarka Dal (lentils) and Sabzi (Mixed vegetables) Rogan Josh with tomatoes, cabbage peppers and garlic.”

We are delighted to announce we have won Chef of the Year at the Scottish Curry Awards 2018! The awards took place earlier tonight at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow.

The award went to Ashok Ram, our Head Chef. Ashok has previously won Chef of the Year for Scotland and Northern Ireland at the Bangladeshi Caterers Association in 2012.

Ashok has been trained by Matin Khan who runs our sister restaurant, Itihaas, in Dalkeith. Matin himself won Curry Chef of the Year at the Scottish Curry Awards 2014!

Congratulations to Ashok and a huge thank you to everyone for voting and supporting us all these years!

Here at The Radhuni, we take pride in using quality produce and showcasing some of the best local and Scottish Food producers in the food we prepare combined with traditional indian flavours . Scotland’s food and drink comes from unspoilt habitats and varied weather, which are perfect for producing a wide variety of high quality fresh fruit and vegetables, fish, meat and much more.

Below is a summary of the provenance of the produce used in our menus, where possible and in season.

Meat

We use Campbell’s prime meat as our supplier.

The lamb comes from the upland areas of the Highlands and Aberdeenshire.

Our free range chicken is armed at Laurencekirk, Aberdeenshire.

Fruit & Vegetables

Our Fruit and vegetables our mostly sourced from a local Edinburgh grocer who use the following farms:

  • Charleton farm – Dundee
  • Yondteron Farm – Lanarkshire
  • Tombreck Farm shop – Perthshire.

Dairy

Our milk, cream and yoghurt comes from Grahams family dairy of Bridge of Allan. The Graham family have been dairy farming for over 70 years
